Scotty: Yes.
HF: Talk to me…
Darrion: I want to work at McDonald’s.
HF: McDonald’s? Why is that?
Darrion: Because you get to cook, and I think cooking is fun.
HF: You like to cook? Do you cook at home?
Darrion: I help my momma with the ingredients and other things…
HF: What do you cook?
Darrion: Like…sloppy joes, spaghetti, nachos…
HF: Do you have a specialty?
Darrion: What’s that?
HF: A specialty is something you’re really, really good at making.
Darrion: Tacos.
HF: Tacos are your specialty?
Darrion: Yes, sir…because it’s easy. All you have to cook is ground beef…
HF: You know that they don’t serve tacos at McDonald’s, right?
Darrion (wide-eyed): Uh, oh.
HF: Uh, oh….
Darrion (smiling): Taco Bell.
HF: How long have you been going to HOPE Farm.
Darrion: I started in September, I think.
HF: So…less than a year. Do you like it so far?
Darrion: Yes, sir.
HF: What do you like about it?
Darrion: Rec (recreation time).
HF: What do you do during recreation time?
Darrion: I play ball, like soccer, football, basketball…
HF: What’s your second favorite part about HOPE Farm?
Darrion: Bible study.
HF: Do you learn anything in Bible study?
Darrion: Yes, sir. About Jesus and Abraham.
HF: What else have you learned here since September?
Darrion: To say “yes, sir” and “yes, ma’am.”
HF: You do a good job with that. You’ve got good manners.
Darrion: Thank you.
HF: What man at HOPE Farm do you most want to be like?
Darrion: Mr. Moss.
HF: Why?
Darrion: Because he leads people.
HF: What does that mean?
Darrion: He’s a leader. He’s good all the time and he does the things he’s supposed to do.
HF: Is that how you are? Do you do things you’re supposed to do?
Darrion: Sometimes.
HF: Are you a leader in your classroom?
Darrion: A little tiny bit.
HF: What does that mean? A little tiny bit?
Darrion: That means that I don’t lead a lot.
HF: Do you want to lead more?
Darrion: Yes, sir.
HF: How do you accomplish that?
Darrion: By not talking…not pushing or kicking or punching…
HF: Will you be able to do that?
Darrion: Yes, sir.
HF: Tell me something else about your self. You like to help your mom cook tacos. You want to work at McDonald’s because you like to cook…
Darrion (interrupting): Remember…I meant to say Taco Bell.
HF: Oh, yeah…What else?
Darrion: I have four dogs…I like to play Legos….I like to take baths…I like to take my vitamins every morning when I wake up….
HF (interrupting): And you want to be a better leader?
Darrion: Yes, sir – because I think it’s a good thing to do. So I can grow up and lead people.
HF: How would you lead them?
Darrion: If they are bad, I could help turn them into good people.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
